I'm back to Gentoo development because now i ended my school year and i'm at my parents home in vacations.
So what news for now: Me and Philippe released Brasero 0.6.0 and had a new mailing list on Gnome, check our wiki page for more information.
On Gentoo i bumped banshee 0.13.0 last week, keyworded a few stuff for amd64 and currently working on Gnome 2.19 to get it done in shape for importing to the official tree right after the 2.20.0 release.
As for Brasero i'm currently working on dbus support and we will get the plugin system done soon (it's already on svn trunk at gnome svn).
Current Mood: satisfied
PS: I Moved my blog to http://lmedinas.livejournal.com/ beandog can you add that blog to planet gentoo please ?

Ok first the bad news. Banshee 0.11.x using mono 1.2 is broken. Only because mono 1.2 as IO Unix backend broken, i already filed a bug with abock and see if we can get this working. Here is the Aaron post to Banshee Mailing List about it.
"The Unix IO backend in Banshee is broken under Mono 1.2, as you've seen.
I found out about this on Sunday I think, but haven't yet had the time
to look into it, so thank you! Your findings should be helpful for the
bug:
http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=79914
I'll confirm them hopefully later today, but it would be helpful if you
could post your findings to that bug.
The code in Banshee *should* work (it always has before), so I think
this is a regression in Mono and needs to be fixed. However, I'll
probably look for a workaround for Banshee 0.11.3."
The good news for Gnome as i fixed the nautilus bug about the "flying" desktop icons and is all up-to-date according to ftp releases. All except gnomemm and java-gnome bindings. You can see the progress of gnome 2.16 towards to stable here. If you want to speed things a bit helps us fixing this bugs.

Hi
Here is a call for help for something that wasn't done before on the Gentoo Project. Start a new Gentoo artwork herd.
I talked with a few users of lila (like i am too) and they did a wonderful job of creating artwork for Gentoo. But the things never get so good to get the artwork on the main tree and the project was going down :(.
So this is a call for every designers and developer who want's to build a new artwork project for gentoo. The goal is to have a complete set of artwork for Gentoo which needs to contain wallpapers, icons, gtk and qt themes, gensplash (optional since we already have) and possibly help maintain packages on the x11-themes category of course starting with lila would be good.
I can mentor one or two prospective developers to work on this project. If you are interested you can reach me at gentoo-desktop @ irc.freenode.net or via mail metalgod@gentoo.org.

Warning 2: You need the masked version of pam and pam_console
Warning 3: If you want to improve the Gentoo backend you are welcome to do so send the patches to our bugzilla

During the last few days lot's of different opinions were around our community. Some users don't care about the removal but others start flamming and they want to keep xmms on the tree.
After i go to vacations the sound team (including me) agreed it's the right time to remove it from the tree because i'm not willing to maintain it anymore. The main reason is that xmms have a dead upstream and we did lot's of work to keep it sane (you can check our work here).
Now i encourage anyone to merge xmms to an overlay (sunrise might be a good option to be maintained by the community).
Another thing i have to say is that xmms2 isn't a replacement for the old xmms. It's a new media player that only shares the name and the developers team.
A few other distribuitons don't install xmms by default too. They keep xmms on other repositories far from the main tree with the same reason we have.
Lot's of users complain about the way we did this decision but a few months back we discuss it on gentoo-dev mailing list and we all agreed that it must be removed. So this wasn't a decision we took last week or in the last days.
Now i encourage every user to test new alternatives, report bugs and claim new features to other media players available on the tree so we all can forget xmms from once and for all. Look there's lot's of nice players on the tree. Personaly i use Banshee and Muine this applications rock my desktop. Remember all OSS community shouldn't be tied to the past we should "inovate" and we should "like to inovate".
So now i hope everyone calm down we aren't going to remove KDE or Gnome tomorrow or your favorit piece of software without any good reason. We are opensource lovers too and we do the best we can to love it and inovated it.

First i would like to say sorry to his family for this. I know it's hard.
This is a big loss for FOSS community and for the Gentoo Project since he did everything for us.
Lilo you know we won't miss you. I'm sure you are sending akill's on Heaven ;).
Rust in Peace.

Today i bumped cdrkit on our tree. Like i said previously on a bug i added a virtual/cdrtools and made a symlink to cdrecord so it can be used by every frontend. After this i open a bug #146631 so every arch can test it and keyword it.
Please test this application so we can unmask it soon.
Today i helped again Phillip from Brasero to port this awesome Gnome application to nautilus-burn 2.16. Good Job Phillip.
Yeah he knows it was a pain but here i am to help you :P. I added the development version to portage (masked) 0.4.90 and tomorrow after the 0.4.4 release that wasn't ready for nautilus-burn 2.16 i will commit too.

Long time i don't blog... i'm sorry i now i'm lazy.
I sent this mail to gentoo-dev mailing list today.
"Now i know the real story since i've been talking with Debian
Maintainers. So there's isn't anything to say but we are working close
to upstream and they actually offer commit access to maintainers of
another distros. Cdrkit project sounds much more like an open project
than cdrtools so i'll be with them. This was pretty much what happened
with Xfree/Xorg. So cdrtools will be the "close" project and cdrkit the
"open" project. Like i said before Gentoo joined this new project.
Now the license problems are fixed and we can ship this on our portage
tree tarballs for our new releases etc...
The package is in the tree and it's asking for testing before i can
remove it from pkg.mask and provide the cdrtools virtual."
Ok i think i don't have to tell anything more...

Last 3 weeks were like hell... lot's of work. I mean presentations, tests and some research for my university projects.
I've been looking at dashboard project and i get two little patches commited just for building and get dashboard working again. For that joe sugest me to write a beagle-ui-0.0.pc file for beagle that will be available on the next beagle version 0.2.7. After this dashboard can use it and build again. I really like dashboard project and i like to see it alive again (yes there's a SOC project for that) and i will contribute as soon i have some free time.
I've fixed a few bugs for beagle on portage too.
Unfortunatly until the end of June i won't have time for more than a looking a few bugs on our bugzie. But i'm not away... i'm always on irc if you need me but i don't promiss i can answer you right there heheh.

For Stuart... :)
Why would we need Picasa if we have f-spot ? Why would we have to run it with wine when we can have native aplications doing the same ? heheh
It sucks because of that imo

Yeah my hard drive blow up i need to buy a new one and see if i can backup some of the data i had. This week i'm not going to keyword until i install everything and get everything up again (cvs, svn etc..). Last Week i was in vacations but i had to spend some time with my family and friends so i mainly had time to work on Beagle and iFolder ebuilds.
About beagle the searches through portage works fine and we got the multilib patch on the upstream cvs.
Currently i'm testing iFolder to see if i commit to portage soon.
I'll bring more important news as soon as i get my workstation up again.
